Since I started knitting and crocheting again about 15 years ago I’ve made a point to make a baby blanket for each child born to my nieces and nephews. Then, 5 years ago, our god-daughter had her first child. I made a couple of blankets for her, and when she turned 2 I found the cutest pattern for a crocheted toddler dress on-line. I’d never attempted to make anything wearable but I couldn’t resist giving the dress a try. If nothing else, I figured it’s be a learning experience.

The photo of the child in the green dress is how that first project turned out. Stevie (my great-niece) is two in this picture. According to her mom (my god-daughter Katrina, who asked for the green color), she loved that dress and wore it often. As she grew, the dress became more of a top for her and she wore it and wore it and wore it until her mom finally made her retire it. Katrina told me, when I asked, that she’d LOVE a new dress (size 6 now) and her favorite color is pink.

I finished her the pink dress yesterday and it was just as much fun to make and turned out just as cute as the first one. I enjoyed it so much I’d like to find another little girl who’d like one in her favorite color. Anyone know anyone?
