We waved good-bye on Wednesday morning to Kristine and Gary. Kristine was practically vibrating with excitement that she was going home, where her Christmas decorations were still up, to a predicted 5 inches of snow on the ground. Gary, who wouldn’t mind at all living in Florida, was not nearly as excited about the prospect.

I called Lynn, who left here 2 weeks ago today, on Wednesday on a video chat. I was checking on her because there was a big snowstorm Tuesday. She answered the phone, all bundled up in her warm, bulky winter gear, outside in her backyard where she was thoroughly enjoying the crisp, clear, fresh air, blue skies, and warm sun on a bitterly cold day. I’ve got to admit it was pretty and she was happy.

My mother and sister, who where here in mid-January, are trapped for a while in their homes after Manitowoc got 7-10 inches of snow this week.

I don’t understand it. I’ll never understand it. The freezing cold, the piles of frozen white rain, the slop it turns into, and the danger it poses trying to function in it. Snow (the lack of it, really) is just one of the many reasons I love living here in southwest Florida so much. And believe me, after hearing the reports of what our most recent guests are experiencing this week, I thank God (again) that we live here.

Have a great day! I’m going swimming!
