It’s Puzzling….

Ok, it’s a play on words. But it’s got a purpose.

One of my intentions in starting this blog was to chronicle the journey of life after work retirement, muse about what I’ve learned along the way, reminisce to relive the joy of life up to this point, and learn to stay as young, physically and mentally, as possible so there are no regrets when the end of my earthly existence nears.

Two things happened this week that brought brain health and brain activities to the forefront of my awareness. The first is Randy’s hearing aids, which he got yesterday. I’m not exaggerating when I say that we both recognized quickly that his ability to understand more clearly everything coming at him through his sense of sound is going to immensely improve the quality of both our lives. And the doctor explained, after I asked him to, how brain health is adversely affected when hearing deteriorates. I’ll write a longer post in the near future digging deeper about the subject of brain health.

Today I just wanted to share a bit about one of my favorite brain activities. I mention often in this blog how much I enjoy putting jigsaw puzzles together. Last night I had the opportunity, with my friend Ellyn (the group’s founder), to represent the recently formed Rotonda Puzzlers group at the Rotonda Homeowners Association Community Night. Organizations had tables in the Community Center to give people an idea what service or purpose their group offered. We had great fun, met some new friends, learned a few things about the diverse interests of folks who live in Rotonda, and enjoyed the music provided by the Ukulele Club at our neighboring table. We gave away used puzzles to people who are interested in trying the brain health activity that Ellyn and I love so much. They were encouraged to assemble the puzzle, and then bring it to the next puzzle swap for a different one.

If you don’t do jigsaw puzzles to help keep your brain healthy, I encourage you to give it a try. The graphic above details the benefits, all of which I know to be 100% true.

Enjoy!

Never got into the puzzle David decided to purchase (used) last February and spread out on the kitchen table. I did help some separating the similar pieces into groups and every now and then I would see if I could contribute some brain time into finishing it. The puzzle he chose (I don’t think he’s ever put a puzzle together) had 1000 pieces! Needless to say, it was never completed. It was put back in the box and given to Laurie, who I believe assembled it in less than 2 days. This winter I’m hoping to assemble the owl puzzle I purchased when we all went to Gatlinburg, TN in September, 2023! 😂

Too bad I can’t fly up to puzzle with you once in a while. It would be so terrific if they nailed down that tessering thing while we could still enjoy it.
