For my birthday last week a friend gave me a copy of a book called No Regrets and its accompanying workbook, The Fourth Quarter of Your Life.
No Regrets is a quick read, a parable of sorts, and Randy and I both read it in a couple of hours. We started the workbook together this week.
The first chapter of the workbook was brutally honest. It’s point? Being born is a death sentence.
The second chapter was almost as bad. Titled Liars and Charlatans, it asked us to list three ways we were trying to stave off aging in our lives. Thankfully, Randy and I couldn’t really think of any ways in which were were fooling ourselves about trying to be younger.
Whew! Apparently the 4th Quarter of Life (based on an average life expectancy of 80) is between the ages of 60 and 80. And in the stage of life we’re in we are encouraged to think about what matters most, and pursue it. I’m happy to be able to consider any suggestions they have. I like the idea of finishing well. Because after all, none of us actually do get out of here alive.
