My good friend, Mary, who lives in Missouri, recently lost her mother-in-law, who was a doll collector. Mary doesn’t have much interest in dolls, but she’s always loved this pair.
Here’s her note to me about this picture: “My heart has always been on the farm, I loved spending as much time there as I could growing up, aunt and uncle were farmers in Stoughton, Wisconsin. My mother-in-law recently passed away at the age of 96. She wasn’t a farmer, but has had this ever since I can remember. My husband brought it home to me today. Hope you can see what the Mrs has in her hand. “
The detail on these porcelain dolls is exquisite. Look at the close-up photos Mary sent of their hands, with veins, wedding rings and skin properly aged. I’ve left the floor lamp base in the picture to give you a bit of perspective on their size.
What a joy it is for Mary to be gifted something like this to remember a time in her life that meant a lot to her.
And here, because I think it’ll be hard to see in the photo above, is the close-up of what Grandma is holding in her hand….her teeth!
