You know how it is when you neglect picking up little things around the house? You stop seeing them, these little things lying around that aren’t in their place because you left them in the last place you used them?
One day you wake up and with new eyes see your home as the cluttered mess it’s become. And you have to get to work fixing that.
That happened to me this week and it mainly involved books I’ve collected. I’m a sucker for books. Randy built these shelves for me and I vowed that’s all the books I’m going to allow myself in this lifetime. So, this week, as I was finding all the books laying around the house and trying to put them away on the bookshelves, I was also looking for books to rehome because those shelves have only so much room.
I pulled out two that I acquired years ago, probably at a warehouse bookstore sale, thinking I no longer had an interest in them and would give them to the used bookstore. Reading the cover jackets, I realized I did still want to read them and put them back. I pulled two others, acquired during my working years, dealing with decision making. Done with all that, I thought they might be candidates for rehoming. Nope….I want to read those again one more time. They went back on the shelf.
I squished and shoved until I got all the books I found around the house on those shelves. But I need to get busy reading. I have a lot of space to clear on those shelves. And it’s one of the hardest things I have to do. In fact, so far, I just can’t do it.
Seems the only way I can get rid of books is to read them. Once. Or Twice.
