There’s a first time for everything. It took me and Randy 70 years (give or take) to experience our first American Thanksgiving dinner at a Chinese buffet.
Buffet City is our favorite restaurant any other day of the year. We didn’t know how much Thanksgiving (with turkey on the buffet) would cost, but at $15.99 or less any other time, we figured it’d be affordable. It was.
They did have turkey, pictured here. That’s what it looked like the whole hour we were there, mid-afternoon on Thanksgiving Day. Randy pulled off the dregs of a turkey leg and I picked a bit of white meat off the carcass so we technically can say we ate turkey on Thanksgiving this year. I had a tiny serving of (horrible) mashed potatoes and gravy.
We left stuffed just like at mom’s Thanksgiving table of yesteryear though. Buffet City had piles (I wish I’d taken a picture) of 2 different kinds of crab legs, oysters, mussels, and shrimp made about 6 different ways. They had all our other favorite Asian dishes too, including every kind of sushi and sashimi imaginable. There was chicken, ham, roast beef, salmon, and other fish. Two tables of salads and fixings, one table of appetizers and one of desserts was hard to ignore every time we went back to refill our plates. As is typical of Thanksgiving every year, we waddled away from our table.
For the record, we had been invited to spend the day with friends, but because we’re packing and doing chores to get ready for the cruise, we opted to just eat out. Our brother-in-law Gary said we get the food prize this year. And the prep and clean up prizes too. Indeed. We loved it. All for under 50 bucks. We may do it again. And again.
