nally, FINALLY, I found a way to exercise that I absolutely love.

Since my cancer diagnosis early this year, I’m starting to really understand that exercise, which I’ve avoided like the plague most of my life, is vitally important in preventing a recurrence. As is losing weight and eating right, all things I have complete control over.
I don’t mind walking, but (as I mentioned more than once) it’s hot here in Florida. I love to be in the water though. On a trip to the beach a couple of weeks ago my friend Michele said, “come on, let’s go for a walk.” She didn’t mean ON the beach, she meant IN the water. We walked about a mile and then back and when we were done, I feel absolutely amazing.
Walking in water is a great workout with the resistance of the water and the heat problem was gone as I could dive down and cool off whenever I needed to. On the way home, reflecting on how psyched (and accomplished) I felt, I wondered if I could adapt the walk in the Gulf to walking in the pool in my own backyard. I have no idea why walking IN the water never occurred to me before.
It seems that walking or jogging in water is quite a thing. There’s a trademarked program called Fluid Running that sells a buoyancy belt and some other stuff to allow you to do a deep water running workout. I found that just being in shoulder deep water and walking in place works well for me. I can get those knees up high and there’s no impact on them.
I am in love with this exercise! And it feels soooooooo good! Try it and let me know how you like it (or not).
