We all have relationships that definitely don’t enhance our lives. I’ve often said that if you are with someone who doesn’t bring out the best in you, that’s not a relationship you want to nurture. In fact, it’s emotionally healthy to minimize or sever those kinds of relationships.

Yesterday I had an Aha! Moment. Those kinds of relationships aren’t limited to people.

I am, and have been my whole life, involved in a physically, emotionally, and mentally disastrous relationship….with sugar. I never thought of it like that before, but it occurred to me that I need to break up with sugar. It is, though socially acceptable, still an insidious, unhealthy addiction. I googled “breaking up with sugar” and it looks like I am way late to that game. How have I missed thinking about it that way when it’s all over the internet?

This will not be an easy time in my life. But today, on the day I turn 70 years old, this is a gift I can give myself. Breaking up with sugar may well be the best gift I’ll ever give myself.

Happy Birthday to me!
