We’ve been home just over a week. The day we left Manitowoc, 4 days after she moved into her new apartment in a fantastic senior living facility, I don’t think she even noticed we were gone. She is busy, busy, busy, and happy, happy, happy. This picture was taken last Monday, the day of her 91st birthday. She looks to me like she’s had a 15 year age regression.

This is the best outcome my siblings and I could have hoped for. I’ve talked to Mom almost every day. Or I should say, she talks to me. She talks and talks and talks, telling me all the things she’s done that day. She’s in every picture the community posts on Facebook. I couldn’t be more proud of her.

I’ve written a couple of times about the situation and thought process that led up to the decision SHE made to move to this place. You can find the links to those posts here and here. When we arrived in early May to begin the process, she was fretful and keep saying she hopes she made the right decision. When she told me the other day that she was SOOOOO happy with her decision, I couldn’t stop myself from saying, “I hate to say I told you so, Mom, but I told you so.”

Boy, am I glad I was right.

Sue is a very social person. She was a waitress for over 40 years at the same restaurant, and had many long-time friends. She still goes golfing in the summertime but spending endless dreary days in her apartment during the long cold Wisconsin winters was taking a toll on her once sunny disposition. Her decision to finally move was based in part on the fact that she was lonely. Thankfully, her daughter Patti spends a lot of time with her.
But, now that she’s moved, she is like a flower that someone finally remembered to water. She’s blossomed.
Mom, I am so happy for you. You live in an amazing place.
P.S. After meeting the staff at Angelus Senior Living facility numerous times, I turned to Laurie and said, “If you go first, I’m moving here.” 🙂

What a wonderful story-second one like it that I’ve heard this week! It gives us all a little bright spot to look forward to, rather than the fear of the unknown! Thanks for sharing👍👏
