Last week I wrote a post about my breasts trying to kill me. I didn’t realize that the double mastectomy I decided to have would be scheduled quite so quickly.

When I told my doctor I hoped we could get surgery done fairly quickly. I was thinking 2 steps ahead so my recovery was complete well before Randy and I were scheduled to depart (late August-ish) on the epic 50th anniversary grand adventure road trip. She was exceedingly accommodating. Late last week her office called and asked if June 19th will work for us.
It’s been a whirlwind of prep since then. After surgery I will have drain ports hanging from my chest, probably for a couple of weeks. During that time, and until the incisions are healed, I can only sleep on my back. Since I’m a side sleeper, there was some equipment to rustle up to make that as comfortable as possible. And since I won’t be able to lift my arms above my shoulders for 4-6 weeks, I needed to get some clothes I don’t have to put on over my head. I’ve been scouring thrift stores for button up tops and cool (temperature-wise) loungewear. There are a lot of things to consider and prepare for, as well as quite a few pre-surgery medical tests and procedures to get done.
To alleviate some of the stress of things that don’t matter much, I decided to take a pause in this blog until I feel like I have something important to say, and I have the energy to do the work to prepare it.
If you want to be put on the e-mail update list to see how I’m doing, please send me a message and I’ll make sure that happens.
Hugs to all of you, and thanks for all the support after my post last week.
