I often tell people I only turn on the TV in our house for Packer games. That’s been true for the whole two years and a couple of months we’ve lived here. I can no longer say that.
Since it premiered in June 2005, I’ve claimed Dancing With the Stars as my guilty pleasure. I loved everything about the show, the dancing most of all, of course, but the glamour, the stories of both the stars and the pro dancers, the journey and self-discovery of learning to dance, the occasional comedy of folks (probably just like me) who God never made for ballroom dancing but were out there anyway.
I enjoyed it all until Season 29 when Tyra Banks began to host and the content just seemed to go off the rails. It appeared to me that the dancing was no longer the main focus and there were too many things about the show’s content that made me mad rather than glad. I stopped watching completely.
This year we were at Mom’s when DWTS started its season. Tyra Banks is history so we watched along with her. I was delighted that the show looks like it returned to its roots. The hosts, Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough, are terrific. They’re both actual dancers which, I think, adds a lot to the show. I thoroughly enjoyed it again and we’ve been watching every Tuesday since.
Yup, Dancing With the Stars qualifies again as my guilty pleasure.
