Randy and I got home from our cruise last week on Thursday, both with head colds. Mine was just barely starting but Randy’s was several days old so I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to get off scot-free. We both had dentist appointments scheduled for the following Monday so I cancelled them. I also had an appointment with my primary care doctor scheduled for the same day.
As I dialed the phone to call, it struck me what a bizarro world we live in. I was calling my doctor….to cancel my appointment….because I was sick.
As I spoke to the woman who answered the phone and explained that I had a head cold, she asked if I’d had a covid test. I have never had a covid test and said so. She encouraged it now, but I refused, explaining, “they didn’t invent covid until I was 66 years old. Before that I’ve probably had 20-30 head colds, all of which I know from that vast experience and my basic high school science education, there’s nothing you can test for, nothing you can “treat” while the common cold virus runs its course. I’ll rest and drink plenty of fluids, but if I’m not better in a week to 10 days I’ll give you a call for medical advice.”
She rescheduled my original appointment (a non-urgent issue). It’s Tuesday and my cold is gone.
The Bible tells us there’s nothing new under the sun. I believe it.
