We went shopping yesterday…thrift shopping. Or so we thought. A lot of the stores we went to did have old, second hand, used stuff. I was surprised, though, to see how not thriftily they were priced. Perhaps that’s a sign of the financial times we’re in. Perhaps it’s me not understanding the worth of some of the “junk” we saw.
Most intriguing to me is the cleverness people exhibit in naming their second hand stores. There are more common monikers like Treasure Chest, Time and Again, and Second Chances, of course. But I love when people think up inventive, intelligent, and unique names for their stores. Yesterday, in Punta Gorda, we visited the Refindery. Now, that’s what I’m talking about. I only found 3 places in a Google search in the country with that name.
Some other names I admire are The Funkie Junkie (here in Punta Gorda), Redux, Thriftopia or Thriftopolis, Eclectic Emporium, Rummage Revolution, Deja New, and X-Change.
I bought a really cute small white cabinet/table with a seahorse on it to use as a nightstand in our guest room in the new furniture room at Funkie Junkie. I also found 2 paperback books at Goodwill. I’m a sucker for used books. Lynn found a hardcover book and Nancy found a couple of marked down hanging lamps perfect, she said, for her bedroom, and a half priced navy blue suit-type jacket she needs for her installation as a board member at the Elks Club this week.
All in all it was a fun, though exhausting, way to spend an afternoon with friends.
