The End for Tupperware? Or Not?

About 18 months ago I wrote a short post about Tupperware. As a young (cash-strapped) housewife, I found a way to afford some of the “can’t live without” marvelous products that I saw during those “free” but fun social events I always looked forward to, Tupperware parties.

I still have Tupperware in my cupboard. And there are pieces of Tupperware I lost years ago in the tornado that I still miss!

A Reuters News headline dated September 18, 2024 caught my eye. It said “Tupperware files for bankruptcy as its colorful containers lose relevance.” Well, dang. That’s kind of heartbreaking to a Boomer like me. The end of Tupperware? I can’t really imagine it.

I was encouraged to see another headline a couple of days ago (10/30/24) that said the courts had approved the sale of the Tupperware Company. No one is, of course, quite sure what The New Tupperware Company will look like, what products they’ll sell, or if they have the vision and will (and money I suppose) to overcome the problems that led the old Tupperware Company to bankruptcy.

In the Bible, 2 Cor 5:17 says “Behold, all things become new.” I know, I know, that verse is taken so far out of context in talking about Tupperware that if you’re not laughing now at my attempt to be funny, you just don’t get me. But it’ll be fun to watch what new thing the Tupperware Company becomes.

I’ll follow it and report here as best I can.

They had Tupperware for sale at Costco. I thought to myself, “What is going on?”. I was so tempted to buy it, but I’ve been keeping away from plastic products for the most part. Not to mention, I do not need any more containers and more importantly, I have no room for them.

I heard that the New Tupperware Company is changing from the consultant to retail sales model. I just got that slicer/dice gadget from Nancy. It’s amazing!
