Somewhere in our internet browsing adventures recently Randy and I discovered Gary Brecka. Brecka has an unusual, fascinating, and compelling story about how he came to start a podcast called The Ultimate Human. He’s a non-physician human biologist whose life work has been the study of how the human body does, and doesn’t work. It’s the doesn’t work part that’s so fascinating to me. As a non-physician, he looks for and suggests treating the root causes of problems rather than simply push medication at symptoms like most doctors are trained to do in “modern medicine.”

There’s probably a much longer post in the future about some of the things we’ve learned recently from him. For today’s short post, though, I just want to mention something he said recently that hit me like a ton of bricks.

“Aging is the aggressive pursuit of comfort.”

I was stunned.

Realization dawned.

And I know what I have to do to create the rest of the life I want to live.

Laurie, this will definitely require a deeper dive in the future.
Starting with the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 1874, medical schools moved farther and farther away from holistic medicine.
“In the early 19th century, when chemical analysis first became available, scientists began to extract and modify the active ingredients from plants. Later, chemists began making their own version of plant compounds and, over time, the use of herbal medicines declined in favor of drugs.” (excerpt from “People also ask”) This was the beginning of what would become Big Pharma.
Gary Brecka is exposing and destroying Big Pharma’s play book.
Can’t wait for your long post. 🙂
