Trivial Matters

We did it! For the second time in three tries Randy and I were part of a team (called Mixed Nuts for those of you who are interested) that won the monthly trivia contest at the Rotonda West HOA Community Center.

You may not think that’s a big deal, and in the grand scheme of things, it isn’t, I suppose. But when you’re retired, finding anything fun to do that doesn’t include restaurants, bars, the beach, loud music, or playing cards AND doesn’t cost a dime is a welcome change of pace. The point is to enjoy the play and the company. Seeing how much you do, or don’t know, is sometimes surprising. Winning is a big bonus. It’s hard not to feel kinda, sorta proud of that. And the $10 Publix gift card we walked away with is tangible proof of our “superiority.”

We had to laugh though. We went to the Chinese buffet for lunch today and Randy got a fortune that said, “A good mind is one that doesn’t hold on to trivial matters.” Hmmm. Draw your own conclusions.
