Xfinity (Comcast) is the major cable service in the area. In many places, 2+ weeks after Hurricane Ian, many people still don’t have cable service.

Facebook and Next Door are flooded with people screaming about this. There are reports of residents chasing Xfinity linemen with baseball bats. Randy and I drove past a boarded up Xfinity office in Port Charlotte a week ago. There were handwritten signs taped all over to the front of the building by irate customers threatening ridiculous things, like that would help restore their service.

Thankfully, as I’ve previously written about, Randy and I don’t give a rip about cable TV, or any TV for that matter. We struggled without internet service because so much depends on internet service these days. But we kept ourselves entertained quite well, thank you very much, with books. We have a few (well, more than a few actually) in the house waiting to be read or referred to.

I can live without internet. That’s not to say I’d wouldn’t miss the instant access to all the information on the planet, or the easy ability to keep in touch with people. But we didn’t have it before and did just fine. But man, I sure would miss not having a book to lose myself in.

During times of disaster when we lose modern conveniences, thank you, Lord, for books. Good, old-fashioned, timeless paper books. No power needed.
