You remember Linus from the Peanuts cartoon? He’s the kid dragging the blanket wherever he goes. Turns out Linus is the poster boy for a national project I recently found out about. And this worthy project is right up my alley.

The mission of Project Linus two-fold. First, to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.” And second, to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.

I heard about Project Linus from a woman who attended our garage sale last week after she saw me working on a crocheted baby blanket. I attended my first meeting and donated my first blanket in Port Charlotte on Wednesday morning. And now, happily, I’m one of more than 80,000 volunteer blanketeers.

I’ve been keeping my eyes open for a volunteer opportunity that captured my interest. Looks like I’ve found it. I couldn’t be more grateful.
