True Wealth is Control Over Your Own Time

The Power of Snail Mail

Reading Time: 2 minutes

We bought our house here in Florida from The Sand Dollar Home Team. We are invited to 2 fun social events a year, usually a wine and beer tasting and an ice cream social. They sent me a beautiful orchid in a gorgeous piece of hand and locally made pottery after my surgery. Now, 4 years after we bought our house, we still get something in the mail from them almost every month. We think of each member of the Team as friends, an outcome they work hard at achieving through their regular reach-outs. You know, and I know, they are our realtors for life.

On Monday I sent out hand written thank you notes to folks who went out of their way to ease my recovery. By yesterday I’d gotten a call or text from about half of them about that note. Some were surprised to get snail mail, saying it was unnecessary. But one of my life long beliefs is that it’s never unnecessary to thank people and tell them how much you appreciate them. In today’s fast paced, microwave society, a snail mail note, card or letter makes a HUGE impression. So much more than a quick electronic thank you text you can copy and paste.

I wrote a long post about this a couple of years ago called You’ve Got Snail Mail. You’ll find that post linked here. I think it’s worth the reread if you have 5 more minutes. In the meantime, make it a goal to write and mail a note in the next day or two. Don’t be shocked by the fact that a stamp now costs 78 cents. Aren’t the people you care about the most worth that and 20 minutes of your precious time?

Laurie, I love this. I’d probably do the same, although I don’t have many people to write to. Unfortunatly, the legibility of my handwriting begins to fail after a couple of sentences and my spelling skills suck. Hmmm. Maybe if I practiced more…?

You undervalue yourself. Your handwriting is perfectly legible and your spelling isn’t back at all. Practicing more is never a bad idea.
